Pre trip checklist for an airline cabin dog
- 130 days out: dog must settle for 90 minutes in the carrier at home without vocalization.
- 214 days out: full dress rehearsal, carrier, leash, ID, vest, in a high traffic public space.
- 37 days out: vet visit, updated health certificate, copy of vaccinations in two places (printed + phone).
- 4Day of: short morning walk, light meal 4 hours before, water restricted 2 hours before boarding.
- 5Onboard: settle the dog under the seat in front, ignore the dog for the first 10 minutes. Calm sets the tone.
Road trip conditioning for non car dogs
- 1Week 1: feed every meal in the parked car. Engine off. Door open.
- 2Week 2: meals in the car, engine on, no movement.
- 3Week 3: 5 minute drives to nowhere, ending at home. No vet, no park, no destination.
- 4Week 4: progressively longer drives, always ending with something neutral or positive.
- 5Never combine the first car trips with the vet, the groomer, or boarding drop off.

How early should we start before a trip?+
Minimum 4 weeks for a confident dog, 8 to 12 weeks for a dog that hates the car or crate. Cramming travel prep into a week creates a worse traveler, not a better one.
Do you handle international travel paperwork?+
We coordinate with USDA endorsed vets and pet relocation services. We don't do the paperwork ourselves, but we know who does and we'll handle introductions.
Airline cabin vs. cargo?+
Cabin is always preferable when the dog qualifies. For larger dogs we recommend specific cargo cleared routes and have direct contacts at the major carriers' live animal desks.
Hotel manners, what does that actually mean?+
Settle on a mat for hours, ignore housekeeping at the door, no vocalizing when left alone, neutral pass bys in hallways and elevators. We test in real hotels before delivery.
Can you train for specific principals' itineraries (EP)?+
Yes. We work directly with EP teams to condition the dog to the specific venues, vehicles, and patterns the principal uses. The dog is built to the brief.
